“Today is a most unusual day, because we have never lived it before; we will never live it again; it is the only day we have.

Today can be a healthy unusual day for you — and for others — if you take time to give someone a smile . . . to express a word of kindness . . . to lend a helping hand to someone in need . . . to write a note of gratitude . . . to give a word of encouragement to someone who is temporarily overcome with problems . . . to share a portion of your material possessions with others.”

William Arthur Ward

i didn’t spend a single cent today

i downloaded “Spend – Budgeting, v2.22, Seller: Adam Williams (4+)” on iphone for $0.99.

it’s good because it’s real easy to keep track of your budgets and expenditure. the best thing is because it makes me more cautious about my spending.

i actually enjoy the updating process and the humbling OMG!-did-i-seriously-spend-this-much realisation?

i shall stay home and read story books – my quarterly financial rehabilitation.

singapore art show 2009

Posted in arts & culture, quotes, singapore by chloe on October 4, 2009

i searched high and low for the singapore art show 2009 video where various artists were interviewed on what art means to them.

i first caught it at shaw theatre. i thought it was hilarious and what the last artist said left an impression on me but i couldn’t remember what he said after the movie ended.

it was still an impression! just that my memory sucks.

i finally found the video on youtube but it is the full version – 10 minutes of it – and i waited forever to find the line that left an impression.

i’m so glad i found it.

funny, when i first heard it in the theatre, i was really wowed. now that i have searched high and low and waited 10 minutes for that one liner, i am not as wowed.

i guess the frustration kinda killed the wowed factor. haha. still, i am glad i found it!

but still, here is what visual artist, robert zhao ren hui said in the video:

“to me, art is basically helping me make sense of the world.”

getting ready to lose myself

i saw this on zuji.

the zuji guru says,“sometimes the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself.”

i couldn’t agree more.

“It’s hard being left behind. I wait for Henry, not knowing where he is, wondering if he’s okay. It’s hard to be the one who stays.

I keep myself busy. Time goes faster that way.

I go to sleep alone, and wake up alone. I take walks. I work until I’m tired. I watch the wind play with the trash that’s been under the snow al winter. Everything seems simple until you think about it. Why is love intensified by absence?

Long ago, men went to sea, and women waited for them, standing on the edge of the water, scanning the horizon for the tiny ship. Now I wait for Henry. He vanishes unwillingly, without warning. I wait for him. Each moment that I wait feels like a year, an eternity. Each moment is slow and transparent as glass. Through each moment I can see infinite moments lined up, waiting. Why has he gone where I cannot follow?” Clare Abshire

“It is by chance that we met, by choice that we became friends.”

i don’t know the author of this quote but i found this while clearing my office mailbox on monday. glenn used this quote in his farewell email to us and now that i have left, this statement seemed especially poignant.

i’m so glad the friends i have made a choice to be my friend.
